Rebecca Creek Radio Texas Country and Red Dirt
Originally hailing from Las Cruces, New Mexico, Bagwell fell in love with music at an early age and began performing with her two brothers as a teenager. When she finally turned 18, she uprooted herself from her comfortable home life and moved to Austin, where she not only started her higher education at the University of Texas, she quickly learned the art of live performance in many of the city’s clubs, winning over one live audience at a time.
Before too long (after graduating with honors and a degree in Marketing from UT), she released a debut record “Banned from Santa Fe” in 2011 after coming home from a top 10 finish on CMT’s Next Superstar television reality show. In 2013 she released an EP of demos that she recorded during her time as a hired songwriter at Sony ATV in Nashville, followed by 2015’s full-length record “When a Heart Breaks”. Both impressively showcased her budding songwriting talents, but many agree that most impressive is her grueling tour schedule boasting over 150 shows per year across the southwest and beyond.
Incredibly, Bagwell has no manager, and no record contract. She is currently the only solo female act on the Red 11 music roster; but other than having this incredible booking agency, she carries the remaining workload almost entirely alone. She has disposed of all the usual music industry trappings (and in some cases, traps) that typically weigh down and creatively stifle young artists.
Instead, Bagwell has changed the game by reinventing it in ways that have enabled her to achieve a more organic, genuine kind of success.
She won over her sizeable following by word of mouth instead of relying on glitzy gimmicks and calculated hype. Her songs are loaded with as much attitude as they are melody, as “My Boots” and “Whiskey,” two of her most well-known tracks, prove.
In addition to delivering the musical goods, Bagwell’s stage presence embodies a kind of flirty yet tough magnetism that allows her to quickly connect with her audience while singing songs that reveal her heartfelt, often vulnerable side.
